The People's Choice is standing three Candidates in the Spreydon Ward
- Phil for Christchurch City Council and Karolin and Melanie for the Spreydon Community Board
I am passionate about getting things done and putting people at the heart of Christchurch's rebuild and regeneration.
As a current City Councillor and Chair of the Infrastructure, Transport and Environment Committee I have listened to and worked for the community.
On Council, I led the planning and decision-making for Christchurch's Major Cycleways. I led the transition for the Joint Christchurch Public Transport Committee tasked with improving our Public Transport services. I have supported Council’s affordable and social housing projects with the goal of everyone living in a warm, safe home.
I will continue to protect our pure drinking water and support restoration of the Heathcote River. I’ll make Christchurch safer and support a limit on suburban liquor outlets. And I’ll demand financial responsibility from Council, including keeping our strategic assets and open decision making.
I bring to Council integrity, experience, and leadership essential to regenerate a stronger Christchurch.

I am the current Deputy Chair of the Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board.
Over my last term I assisted residents in the formation of the Hoon Hay Community Association. We gathered the community together to retain the Council’s former Children's Voluntary Library as the recently opened Hoon Hay Community Centre.
I believe diversity and participation are essential for local democracy, particularly youth involvement. Therefore, I encouraged and supported local youth to form the Spreydon-Heathcote Youth Community Board, the first of its kind in Christchurch.
I have a PhD in biochemistry, and business experience as the director of my own education company AHeadStart Ltd. I am dedicated, organised and hard-working.
My top priorities are community facilities, solutions for traffic issues and keeping our council owned assets (especially water supply, airport, and electricity network) in community ownership.
Your vote will enable me to continue to support and advocate for our community.

As Community Board chair and member I have worked for a society inclusive of old and young, new and born Kiwis and equality of opportunity for the rich and poor.
I have moved resolutions that have addressed access for the disabled, opposition to gambling, loneliness in older people, a sports gear programme for children, a seminar for women leaders, local heritage, ANZAC Day and more.
I am or have been on the boards of many community organizations including Tenants Protection and Community Law and am, or have been, active on many residents’, kindergarten, school, after-school, housing, children, traffic, worker and peace issues.
I want the council to work with and for citizens, clean clear water, employment that lasts, housing for those in need, public transport that is economical and available, and access to facilities for children, older people and the disabled.
